In a continuing effort to improve their campus and provide desirable amenities to their employees, a Fortune 100 Client collaborated with Arcturis to transform an unfinished basement storage facility into a modern fitness center.
The design was inspired by the concepts of motion, energy and light. The fitness center is a respite for employees, a departure from daily stresses and a space to focus on personal wellness. The concept of light as an energizing force informed our layout – the user is driven by light and experiences more daylight as they progress through the space.
As you enter the fitness center, you are welcomed by elements of natural stone, gray stucco and walnut. The lighting is low and calming, helping the visitor adjust their mindset from a more cerebral experience to a physical one.
As visitors move beyond the reception area, they transition into a space that evokes energy and motion. Dynamic lighting and graphic elements encourage movement and direct visitors into the more active group fitness and open cardio areas. Finishes gradually lighten and natural daylight increases as you progress through the space, energizing visitors. The double height cardio fitness room, previously devoid of windows, was outfitted a new clerestory to provide dramatic natural daylight.
The architectural palette is a raw and textured, featuring exposed concrete walls, structural elements and duct work. These industrial features are contrasted with brighter, more refined and playful details inspired by colors and textures found in athletic wear – perforated white metal panels, white glossy dimensional graphics and vibrant red accent colors.
Lighting was celebrated and used strategically throughout to draw the eye, provoke movement between spaces, energize, or to compliment the natural daylight.
