T-REX is a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening the economic vitality of St. Louis by attracting innovation to the downtown region. As part of this mission, T-REX partnered with Arcturis to develop a 10,000 SF coworking space and technology incubator where entrepreneurs, developers, designers, and other professionals can build their businesses, foster a community of innovation, and create a network of creativity and support. Ultimately, this start-up incubator strengthens our St. Louis technology community by offering affordable office spaces for thriving start-ups of all sizes.
Located in a historic building constructed in the 1890’s, the design of this formerly unoccupied space bridges multiple co-working environments and “micro-offices” with shared resources such as conference rooms, huddle rooms, and open collaboration areas. Each secured micro-office suite is flexible and customizable allowing tenants to expand their space in response to rapid growth.
Along with providing for the spatial and functional needs of their tenants, T-REX wanted to create an environment that inspires people to come to work and continue the distinct sense of culture that had been established in a previous renovation.
Arcturis worked with T-REX to marry the rustic industrial vibe of the historic building with the bootstrap culture of the start-ups moving into the space. A large-scale expression of the T-REX logo greets all who arrive. With a raw and handcrafted aesthetic, this iconography speaks to the start-up entrepreneurial spirit, brand identity, and creates a sense of place. A bold “BE REXY” greets all who enter with a cheeky nod to the organization’s hip interpretation of its prehistoric mascot. Juxtaposing the historic architectural bones of the space with bold wall graphics and modern tile patterns, the design creates a connection between the makers who once worked in the building to the entrepreneurs using the space today.
